Sophia Rokhlin is an author, community builder, and aspiring animist bridging resources to projects that foster the thriving of life and diverse cultures on our beautiful planet. Her life’s work focuses on supporting the conservation of traditional ecological knowledge by advancing community-based solutions for land regeneration and protection. Currently, she is Community Manager with Ma Earth, and Grants Administrator at the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance (ASHA).
Sophia holds a BA in Religious Studies from The New School and an M.Sc. in Ecological Economics from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her past roles include Development Coordinator at the Rainforest Foundation US, and Program Coordinator at the Chaikuni Institute in the Peruvian Amazon. She is a former member of the Chacruna Institute’s Ayahuasca Community Committee, and previously contributed to the Global Atlas of Environmental Justice, mapping grassroots activism related to commodity extraction in the Americas. She’s completed 500 hours of training in Holistic Herbalism at the Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine.
Sophia is a co-author of When Plants Dream: Ayahuasca, Amazonian Shamanism and the Global Psychedelic Renaissance (Watkins, 2019). Her research and writing has been featured in publications and podcasts including the Duncan Trussell Family Hour, The New York Times, Acne Paper Magazine, PBS, BBC, and others.
